Happy New Year! Hard to believe another whole year has gone by! I happened to be tuned into Dr. Charles Stanley’s broadcast this past Sunday and luckily stayed tuned in to listen to his son, Andy Stanley’s broadcast afterward. It was about starting the new year focused on your “one thing.” Most of us know what it is. For me, it’s staying focused on my journey as an author – to get my next book published, to begin writing the next one, to do more speaking engagements, author appearances, book signings, etc. To be further along at the end of 2015 than I was at the end of 2014. To not give up! To not get distracted or sidetracked. Andy Stanley quoted Nehemiah 6:3 in the Bible which I wrote down in my daily calendar and will make my new life verse this year: “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down.” Nehemiah was rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem to keep the enemy out; meanwhile the enemy was trying to tempt him to come down off the wall and secretly kill him because they knew he was Jerusalem’s only hope, as their leader, to fortify and protect the city. What are we tempted by, distracted by – and need to say NO to in order to continue to do our “great work?” Our one thing? Let’s start this New Year by resolving to stay on the wall, to do our great work and not come down!
